We are going to be machines? “Transcendent Man” review

I’m trying to figure out the best way to do all this stuff, so from now on I will be doing my documentary reviews on HubPages.com and posting an excerpt and the link here for anyone that wants to check it out. (That is the plan for this week anyway.) :)

Transcendent Man opens with the quote:

“This is the destiny of the human-machine civilization. A destiny we have come to refer to as the Singularity.” – Ray Kurzweil

Ray Kurzweil is an extremely intelligent engineer and inventor who holds 24 U.S. patents. He invented the flatbed scanner and a reading device for blind people that converts written text to speech.

Amazingly, he also predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union, described the rise of the Internet, and foretold the year a computer would beat a chess champion. Bill Gates said that “Ray Kurzweil is the best in the world at predicting the future”.

So he has a bit of credibility.

His idea is that in the not-so-distant future (2045) there won’t be a clear distinction between humans and computers. His reasoning for this is the acceleration of technology development. It feeds on itself and gets faster and faster.
